Futons are the most versatile piece of furniture you could own.
A good futon can serve as a bed, as a sofa or as a chair (depending on the type) and the best futon should be a piece you are proud to display in your home. I love the minimal style of futons and the fact that they can do double duty as a guest bed or daily sleeper. There is a world of futons out there waiting for you to discover. With so much around, making a choice can be difficult – that’s why I started this blog. I want to save you some time and effort by bringing all the best ideas here.
In this blog, you will find: tips on caring for futons, the health benefits of sleeping on futons and my hand picked selection of the best futons to buy, including some detailed reviews.
Health Benefits of Sleeping on Futons
There appears to be increasing evidence that thick, soft mattresses are actually not as great for your sleep as you might think. The theory goes that if you get too comfortable, you tend to sleep in just one position, creating sore spots and stiffness that can be avoided by sleeping on thinner, less padded floor mats. This has certainly been the case for me. I have a terrible history with back issues and the Japanese floor futon is the one thing that has worked. I wake feeling much more rested and much less sore. Check out the video below for a doctor’s perspective on floor sleeping.

Caring for Futons
Some futons, especially Japanese futon mattresses need a little extra care. Nothing too difficult – just a few things you need to be aware of to prevent mould or mites from making their home in your lovely bed. Sofa beds and futon sets also have their own care needs which I hope to share.
